Solar Panels in the UK
Solar panels for the first time in history are a good financial investment with the added 25 year guarantee from the government who are making the first commitment to making renewable energy top on their agenda for environmental for sustainable energy.
The latest solar panels are 'direct' evacuated tubes and PV photovoltaic solar panels, which perform well in the UK climate.
After 30 years, compound interest would turn the £8,000 in a savings account to £27,568. Assuming the money from solar (the feed-in tariff and electricity savings, etc) is deposited in a bank after the installation costs have been paid off at year 10, harnessing the power of the sun would be worth £40,654 after 30 years.
Benefits of PV Solar Panels:

Clean energy cashback scheme & feed-in tariffsThe feed-in tariff (Fits scheme) for PV solar panels - Depending on what size you buy compared to how much energy you consume, PV solar will generate your electric and sell your energy produced through the new 'Clean Energy Cash Back Scheme' and power from solar panel could earn £900, on top of £140 reduction on household energy bill. |

| Solar electricity (PV) | ≤4 kW (retro fit) | 41.3 | 25 |
| Solar electricity (PV) | ≤4 kW (new build) | 36.1 | 25 |
| Wind | ≤1.5 kW | 34.5 | 20 |
| Wind | >1.5 - 15 kW | 26.7 | 20 |

In general:
- the more electricity the system can generate, the more it costs but the more it could save
- solar tiles cost more than conventional panels
- panels built into a roof are more expensive than those that sit on top but,
- if you need major roof repairs, PV tiles can offset the cost of roof tiles
Savings can be considerable - almost 1 tonne of CO2 a year, and around £200 off your electricity bill*. A 2 kWp system could provide around 40% of a household's yearly electricity needs.
Maintenance is generally small - you'll need to keep the panels relatively clean and make sure trees don't begin to overshadow them.
